The Origin of World Rotaract Day - Rtr Joo

The Origin of World Rotaract Day

The proposal of establishing a "World Rotaract Day", to be celebrated annually by all Rotaractors, was presented to Rotary International by DRR 1989-90 of D.2420TurkeyRtr. Derya SENSOY, on February 23, 1990 by the following letter:
"Being the young generation of the "Service Above Self" philosophy, we would like a certain day to be celebrated as “World Rotaract Day” which would give us a chance for our voice to be heard with a common activity.
This day will also be an opportunity to make us approach each other sharing the happiness of being Rotaractors and will motivate us to create new ideas.
An activity shared by World Rotaractors will attract world attention and will enhance recognition of Rotaract. This activity should be at least at district level and it should have a group activity characteristic such as blood donation, public service campaigns etc. It should be kept in mind that the higher the rate of participation, the more successful the activity.
On the other hand, a declaration by the President of Rotary International about that day emphasising the humanist side of Rotaract and stating its philosophy will play an active role in the development of the Rotaract programme.
Moreover, it is important for the recognition of Rotaract to prepare a bulletin about the activities undertaken and to distribute it to related institutions, local authorities and the Press.
Based on the foregoing facts, we are requesting RI to accept the foundation day of the first Rotaract Club as the official"World Rotaract Day" and to celebrate it each year.”
This proposal was brought to the attention of all Rotaract Clubs as one of the "Items for Consideration" prepared by the 1990-91 Rotary International Rotaract Committee (Group II, item 11). Following the discussions of Rotaractors, the proposal was put forward by the RI Rotaract Committee as a recommendation.
Then, after the Rotary Convention held in Mexico in June 1991, the Board of Directors of RI approved this proposal as a project to be implemented. And in 1993, due to the 25th anniversary of the Rotaract ProgramWorld Rotaract Daywas extended to World Rotaract Week (the second week of March).

About World Rotaract Week - Rtr Joo

Every year, Rotaractors and Rotarians around the world celebrate World Rotaract Week during the week of 13 March to commemorate the founding of the first club in 1968.

World Rotaract Week is a time for celebrating the success and importance of the Rotaract program. This event is also an excellent opportunity to inform members of your community about the amazing work that Rotaract clubs do, and give them an opportunity to get involved.

Rotaract clubs and their sponsor Rotary clubs have the freedom to explore a variety of methods of participating in World Rotaract Week. We decided to celebrate Rotaract program with:

    - Guesting all european Rotaractors to Milan for an amazing weekend from 16th to 18th March!
    - Conducting a fundraiser for Rotary's environmental projects such as Aqua Plus and ShelterBox
    - Promoting a debate on environmental and sustainability issues
    - Publicizing Rotaract in local media.
    - Encouraging cross-promotion between Interact, Rotary Youth Exchange, RYLA, and other community youth organizations.
    - Co-operating with international Rotaract clubs.
    - Introducing potential members to Interact by inviting them to a meeting or a project.

    விலகும்போது நெருங்கி வருவதும் நீதான்
    நெருங்கி வரும்போது விட்டு விலகுவதும் நீ தான்

    இத்தனை நாளும் என்னுடன்

    Rotaract - Rtr Joo

Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth programme in 1968 and has now grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 9,030 clubs spread around the world and 207,690 members. It is a service, leadership and community service organisation for young men and women between the ages 18–30.Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.
"Rotaract" stands for "Rotary in Action",although the name originally comes from a combination of "Rotary" and "Interact" (International + Action), the high school level programme created by Rotary International in 1962.
Most Rotaract activities take place at the club level. Rotaract clubs hold formal meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature speakers, special outings, social activities, discussions or visits to other clubs. Club members get together on designated days for service project work, social events, or professional/leadership development workshops.
The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
To be eligible for membership, prospective members must be 18–30 years of age, show that they are committed to Rotaract, and show that they are of good standing in the community. After being approved by the club, prospective members are 'inducted' to become members, also known as 'Rotaractors'. Clubs generally charge a small annual membership fee to cover costs.
